My Jayhawks have advanced to The Final Four!!!!!!!!!! (Barely) We only won by two points...a stark contrast to our big wins throughout the tourney. The game was crazy but awesome, it certainly kept my mind off things.
This weekend's Final Four is significant for two reasons.
- First of all, this is the first Final Four to include all four #1 seeds that kicked off the tournament.
- The second significance is that my team will be playing North Carolina....who are coached by Roy Williams, who was OUR coach from 1988 -- 2003. This will be the first time he's had to face the Jayhawks since he left us. This will be emotional for everyone, that's for sure.
And all four teams are all different shades of blue....perhaps foreshadowing for the election in the fall - DEMOCRATS.
Hmmmmm......
ED - I just got this via email, it's silly but good:
Our Father, who art in Lawrence,
Hallowed be thy Game.
Thy tourney come,
Thy championship will be done,
In San Antonio as it is in Allen Field House.
Give us this day our deserved victories.
And forgive us our turnovers,
As we forgive Roy who double-crossed against us.
And lead us not into defeat,
But deliver us from East Coast bias,
For Kansas is the basketball kingdom,
And the tradition,
And the glory,
For ever and ever.
Amen.
BEAK 'EM HAWKS!!!!!!!
Show us the athlete you'd most like to be for one game.
He's always about to do something magnificent:
The meeting is breaking up...
Dora's answering the phones as the door to the big conference room opens...she hears the bustling voices of men wrapping up their meeting, laughter abounds. "They must've ended this one on a good note", Dora thinks to herself...from the conference room comes the voice of an elderly man named Murray, whom the meeting was concerning...
Murray: (off stage) Anyone want to get drink??!
Dora: (from her desk) I DO! *giggle*
A lawyer: (pops his head out the conference room and looks at Dora) Hey Murray - you got a volunteer right here! The receptionist is interested.
Murray: (off stage) Is she good looking?
The room erupts with laughter
Dora: Of course I am, they didn't hire me for nothing!
A lawyer: (now standing in the hall) That's right - hey Murray, she's the face of this company!
Dora: The Director of First Impressions, to be exact.
A lawyer: Hey, I like that!
Dora continues to answer calls as the men come filing out of the room, laughing and talking. One of the partners comes out of the room with Murray, stepping into the hallway. He shakes the hand of a young man standing with him.
Partner: (removes the unlit cigar from his mouth) Hey, your grandson's a good lookin' kid! *wink*
Murray: Eh...don't be fooled, he's really a crook.
Grandson blushes and laughs.
Partner: *laughs* Well, you better take good care of him. (To the grandson) And take good care of him, too!
Grandson: Oh I will... (crosses to the rest of the men waiting in the lobby)
The Partner exits down the hall as Murray feebly creaks up to Dora's desk...
Murray: SO. Are you my date?
Dora: I believe I am but you know...I guess I should stay here *pouts*
Murray: (Continues to feebly creak past the desk to join his entourage) Well, that's too bad...What's your name?
Dora: I'm Dora.
Murray: Really? I had an Aunt named Dora but you are MUCH better looking than she was.
Dora: Well, thank you! (goes back to answering phones)
The Suit: My Murray, you certainly have a way with the ladies...
Murray: You better believe it!
The men gather around the elevators laughing.
Scene
Dora sits at her desk vehemently playing free cell and answering phones.
The door to the big conference room opens and out comes a suit with a weary look on his face.
Dora: *smiles sympathetically* (she knows what this meeting is about)
Suit: Can you do me a favor?
Dora: Sure...
Suit: Can you wait 30 seconds and then throw a hand grenade in there while I'm in the restroom? That would be GREAT.
Dora: *shakes head and LOLs*
