...that I randomly got the book "No sir. I DON'T Approve." for x-mas this year!
YAY!
I don't even think the family friend that gave it to us knows about my interest in cutology. So I grabbed it and called dibs immediately.
I've been enjoying reading about the disapproving antics of Latte and Cinnamon. So many smug rabbits in that book!
Any of our neighborhood rabbits in thar?
What fragrance/cologne do you put on when it's your night out?

My fave. I prefer the body lotion. I do well with rose scents...
Audio: What's your favorite carol or holiday song?
Look, I'm not really all cheery cheesy crazy about most Christmas music. Like really, Josh Groban's whiny Ave Maria just doesn't impress. Puke on a stick. But when Christmas music is good - it's good.
I love The Roches Christmas album, We Three Kings, the most.
The first time I heard the first song, I wept, it's so glorious. I'll post two up here, my fave song being the first - the weep inducer. What amazes me about these talented singer-songwriters from New Jersey is that even though there are only three of them, they sound like an entire choir. I really don't know how they do it. And the alto is really a bass, she has the lowest female range I've ever heard, as is demonstrated in the second song I will post.
EnJOY!
On this day in 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat to a white man. Show us what makes YOU brave.
I'm not in any way shape or form able to compare myself and any amount of bravery I possess to somebody like Rosa Parks.
But, in case you've never heard of her, I would like to take a moment to introduce to you the REAL first black woman who refused to give up her seat in Alabama, Claudette Colvin. I wrote my final paper about her for Women's Studies because it blew my mind that I had never heard of her.
She wasn't an attractive candidate for the bus boycott poster child because she was from a lower class than most of the blacks working with the NAACP at the time and she up and got pregnant right after her arrest, gave birth to a light skinned child and became a potentially scandalous pock on Montgomery's NAACP chapter. She was active in the youth movement and knew Rosa Parks, who was a mentor to her. But no one gave her this idea. One day, she just didn't move. It was all her. But then she got pregnant by a much older, married man, a scandal in the making. So nine months after her arrest, Rosa Parks followed suit and wouldn't give up her seat. Ms. Colvin has maintained that Rosa was a better representative for the bus boycott but I've also seen stories that suggest that she is also disappointed that her story was never told, a speck of reality swept under the rug of a movement that was struggling so hard to be viewed as legitimate as possible. In retrospect, I understand why they covered her up...but damn - we can't even recognize her now?
Well I do. She was the real brave soul, IMO. Rosa had resources, she was an unpaid secretary for the NAACP, yes, BUT they had her back for real - she was married to one of the leaders. And she knew that. Claudette didn't know that. All she knew was that black men were WAY too afraid to stand up to the bus segregation situation because they could have very likely been killed as a result. So someone had to do it.
Bless you, Claudette Colvin, bless you!
check out this unbelievably, disgustingly, redonkulously, prosh ecard I sent my mom for her b-day:
Proceed with caution or your head WILL explode - I repeat - WILL explode
I mean Jesus Christ! Should that even be legal?
If you could perform alongside any artist (actor, dancer, musician, etc.), who would it be, and what would you perform?

O HAI ya'll!
I'm back in NYC and BOY am I flipping EXHAUSTED. As usual, my flight was delayed so I didn't get home until 12:30 last night and despite my kick-ass speedy unpacking job that landed me in bed by 1AM, I didn't get to sleep until 4AM. What. A. Nitemare!!!!!!!! I hate insomnia. But I shouldn't have had coffee before and during the flight on top of two sudafeds to keep my ears clear. *sigh* WHY did I take two? Duh fucking DUH! So I'm operating on two hours of sleep today. FUN.
I also got bad news when I showed up at work first thing today. Our beloved doorman, Nelson, died of a heart attack in our lobby last week. Just up and DIED. They tried to revive him to no avail. He was such a sweet man, he was one of the people I was looking forward to seeing today. :( Poor Nelson!! Our DHL guy was his best buddy, they ate lunch together everyday and he showed me the prayer card from the visitation. That made it a little more real for me. We're raising money for his family fund here in the office. We do charity jeans day every once in a while so our next one will be to benefit his kids.
So...moving on to happy news! I had a wonderful trip overall. My ass is getting back to the gym ASAP, I'll tell you that much. What a gluttonous vacation that was. Thanksgiving feasts are bad enough but when you add obligatory trips to your favorite restaurants on top of it...fagheddaboudit!
Yes, the best news of all was my visit with OMGREDZILLA!!1!!11!1 I met our High Priestess on Sunday, *touch* me if you must...*holding out hand* LOL!
She's a great gal. So sweet and funny. She joined myself and my three buddies for lunch at my favorite restaurant, Free State. I useta work there, too. In fact, that's how my current roommate and I met. We ate and I downed three pints of delicious Jon Brown Ale and Copperhead Pale Ale. *burp* It was awesome. And then Redz extended the invite for us to come and check out her "hobbit house" and to meet the infamous Sippy and Flanny. She lives in one of these old, old rock houses near the student ghetto that I used to admire when I lived in Larry Town. Just beautiful! We had a nice and long visit. Thank you again Redz for being such a great hostess and for letting me snorgle your kitteh katters.
The rest of my KC/Lawrence visit was grand, too! Two of my best friends, Anneka and Daniel, live in a tiny town south of KC, KS in this beautiful Victorian home with a HUGE yard, a deck, three cats and all that good stuff that I will never ever ever have ever if I continue to live in NYC. Redzilla's yard is gigantic, too! So jealous! Anyway, Anneka and Dan took me all around on Monday, we did some shopping and ate at Gates BBQ for lunch. SO GOOD. *double burp*
Christ - ala Stuart Smally, I just ate and ate and ate.
So it's good to be back though I did have my usual reverse culture-shock this morning on the train ("who ARE you people? 0_o), complete with some lady's bag being shoved in my face for most of the ride.
I'm looking forward to going home and celebrating the fact that Bush only has 420 days left in office. Thanks Valerae for that little tidbit.
